Summary

Each participating school will present one or several of their local national parks, nature reserves, items from UNESCO´s World heritage list or other local areas that are interesting in some way. The students are encouraged to present something from their own country or region, but it is also allowed to pick a subject somewhere else as long as they stay inside the Asian and European boundaries. Their presentations can be made with any tool as long as you can publish it on the Internet. All work will be published on this website with a searchable map of Asia and Europe.

Have you tried Google Earth before? 2 Replies

One of the programs you have to try in this project is Google Earth. Have You tried it before? What do you think of it? When and why do you use it?

It is January and the project starts. There are two things for your students to do this month. First Sign Up, wait for approval, and then sign in and create their own "My Page" This is an individual task. The second task is for every school to pinpoint their school in Google Earth and show it to the others on the international treasure map down below on this page, allong with a group photo of the students. Play around with Google Earth so you get the picture, and then follow this tutorial:How to pin point your school to internationaltreasure.doc or How to pin point your school to internationaltreasure.pdf

Welcome to International Treasure

Similar to the ASEF´s new strategy focusing on the environment, this project also aims to raise student awareness in environmental issues. Being able to take important steps forward the students’ need to be aware of the past. They need to know what society have done for the environment so far to be able to do more in the future. Sweden was the first European country making laws for protecting the environment and the endangered wildlife. In 1909 Sweden as the first European country formed their first national parks. The first nine European national parks were actually Swedish. This year, 2009, Sweden celebrates 100 years of National Parks and nature conservation. Also in 2009 Sweden got its first marine national park. All of this is something that our students are barely aware of.

Each participating student will present a national park, nature reserve, or an item from UNESCO´s World heritage list or another local area that is interesting in some way. It can be something from their own country or the local region, but they are also allowed to pick a subject somewhere else as long as they stay inside the Asian and European boundaries. They can present their work as a PowerPoint presentation, a blog, a website, a movie or use any tool of their choice as long as the work can be published on the Internet. All work will be published on a website with a searchable map of Asia and Europe. The local teacher in charge will supervise the students and after checking the work they can simply e-mail it to me for publishing it on the project website.
